Last Stand at Nymboida is a unique and extraordinary story that began in February 1975 when a group of underground coal miners at the remote Nymboida colliery near Grafton were handed their notice after their employer declared bankruptcy. The 30 determined mineworkers refused to accept the sack and the loss of their entitlements and began a work-in with the support of their Union. The Union was awarded the lease and with the miners ran the mine successfully for more than four years. After the mine's closure in 1979 a new chapter in Australian industrial history began when the Miners Union was granted a new lease to a modern Hunter Valley coal mine operated by United Collieries in Singleton. Profits from the tonnage were used to establish the Mine Workers Trust which has supported the men, their families and their communities since 1989.

Entry from: Grafton, Australia Entry Title: "Australia Zoo" Entry: "We started the day with a swim in a freezing cold pool, which woke us up really well. We then set off further south on our quest for Sydney reachage. We stopped at Australia Zoo, just north of Brisbane, home of the famous Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. We couldn't not stop here really, even though we wanted to get to Sydney. We had to stop here, and we were so glad we did! We started off looking at Cassowaries (man eating emus, well they don't eat men, mainly lizards etc), followed by koalas, dingoes, kangaroos, wombats, snakes and camels. We then went to a crocodile display, where the zoo keepers fed a croc - that was amazing to watch. Apparently they are pretty much harmless out of water because they are so slow, but in the water you really need to watch out! No more swimming in scamandon, granny, just in case! We both don't normally like zoos and wildlife parks etc because the animals look so unhappy cramped up inside their cages, but at Australia Zoo, Steve Irwin has really done well to give the animals as big enclosures as they could possibly need. The crocodile had a 100m x 50m enclosure, whereas the one on Philip Island was in an indoor cage 5x2m. Bit of a difference. The bird enclosure was about 20m high, 200m long and 50m ...

Shot after Centre to Sea using a 400D, this was an experiment based on what I learned. Namely the frame rate is being adjusted to suit how "busy" the scene is. I've uploaded this as a network test so I searched for a track the same length, Aphex Twin - Digeridoo from the Classics Album. It fits so well, maybe Richard will approve.

Entry from: Grafton, Australia Entry Title: "Preperations completed." Entry: "At last all preperations for our amazing trip to Yunnan China & Vietnam are complete. The last pieces of a jigsaw, that commenced in November 2008, was put into place when we received our passports back from the Chinese embassy with the Chinese visa stamp in place. It has been a long and sometimes fustrating exercise. All arrangments have been made over the internet. There have been many hours researching hotels and tours. Without Travelpod and Tripadvisory sites this research would have been more difficult. The patience shown by Mr Tom from Trailsofmountain.com has been immense. (thank you Mr Tom) Pitfalls were many but the worst was after purchasing return airfares Hanoi to Kunming with Vietnam airlines they suddenly changes their flight schedules to Kunming. This meant a complete rescheduling of our Chinese tour. We are staying in the Elegance 2 Hotel in Hanoi and the Cha Pa Garden botique Hotel in Sapa We hope to give up to date feed back on all hotels etc throughout our trip. One thing still has to be done and that is to get a seat allocation on Singapore Airlines Flight No SQ246 ex Brisbane. To day July 28/7/09 I have just checked in with Singapore Airlines and booked our seats for both legs of our flight to Hanoi ...
