In recent years, the song has been turned into a sporting chant in England and Scotland, with Nicky Butt (Manchester United and later Newcastle United), Jobi McAnuff (Reading and formerly Crystal Palace), Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (Wolves), Wes Hoolahan (Norwich City), David Connolly (Southampton), Tommy Spurr (Sheffield Wednesday), Samir Nasri(Arsenal), although this version does not work due to Nasri's surname not having the required three syllables for this chant to work as it only has two - Nas and Ri, Gordon Greer (Brighton & Hove Albion), Simon Cox (West Bromwich Albion), Alec Ward (OUAFC), Rafael van der Vaart (Tottenham Hotspur), and Paulo Sergio (Heart of Midlothian), as well as in Danish football with André Bergdølmo (FCK) during his tenure there, all being chanted by supporters. Aberdeen's latest signing Kari Arnason is tipped for glory at his new club after fans realised this was the player they needed to have a "Give It Up"-based song to chant. Aberdeen are now surely favourites for the 2011-2012 spl title. During the 2010 Mosconi Cup in London, the home crowd chanted the chorus to Nick Van Den Berg. During the 2011 PDC World Darts Championship, the chant was also used for Dutch player Vincent van der Voort. The song was featured in the low-budget 1986 horror movie Killer Party. |
