First awarded in 1986, the Geminis celebrate the achievements of TV members of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Essentially, it presents awards for the best television productions in Canada. Awards are currently presented in 87 categories. November 19, 2005 was also proclaimed to be "Gemini Awards Day" by the Toronto City Council. The Gemini Awards also include several special awards given out for various reasons such as lifetime achievement. Normally held in Toronto, the 2006 ceremony was held in Richmond, BC on November 4, 2006 and the 2007 ceremony was held in Regina, Saskatchewan on October 28, 2007. The award's French-language counterpart is the Prix Gémeaux. |
