Forrest County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It is part of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2010, the population was 74,934. Forrest County was carved out of the western portion of Perry County in 1908. It is named in honor of Nathan B. Forrest, a Confederate general in the American Civil War, and the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Its county seat and largest city is Hattiesburg .
