The Ford Country Squire was a full-size station wagon built by the Ford Motor Company from 1951 until 1991, encompassing seven model generations. The Country Squire was based on Ford's full-size car line and was the premium station wagon in Ford's model range. The Country Squire was initially built as a "woodie". After the mid-1950s the rear body was composed of fiberglass covered by a vinyl appliqué printed to simulate wood. Later versions featured an all-steel body and are best remembered for featuring body sides and a tailgate covered by simulated wood trim and panels, however the Country Squire could be purchased without them. Models without simulated wood trim were marketed as the Country Sedan and Ranch Wagon between 1952 and 1974; subsequently, all full-size Ford wagons were sold as Country Squires.

The Country Squire was based on the Custom DeLuxe series in 1951, the Crestline from 1952 to 1954, the Fairlane from 1955 through 1958, Galaxie 1959 through 1966, and the LTD/LTD Crown Victoria from 1967 through 1991. Due to declining sales, Ford elected to exit the full-size station wagon market after 1991.

The Colony Park was the equivalent model sold by Ford's Mercury division.

This is Aunt Edna. She is a 1977 Ford LTD Country Squire. These kings of the road once ruled the automotive landscape, now slowly being forgotten. She was found under a tree in 2004, sitting for three years. It had mold growing inside the windows and was being used for storage by the farmer that owned it. I paid $150....shes come a long way since then. The paint looked orange it was so badly faded, the wood sides where white, and the whole brake system was shot.....it took some labor and a lot of love....but its been worth it. When I was driving home in November of 2005, I hit a deer at 65 mph in the Chicago burbs. I found a salvage yard where I go to school in Macomb, IL (home of WIU), I repainted the front clip, and replaced it my apt. parking lot. This video was taken at whim. I was playing with my digital camera and I discovered that it could record. This was also the last time the wagon was able to drive. In January of 2007, my head gasket blew. I sent it to a local shop in Macomb, IL called D_D's Garage. He had the car for three months to fix it. It was never right. I took it back to Chicago, Aunt Edna over heated and cracked a head. I had her towed back to D_D's Garage, where he had it for another four months. He scamed me, I now have a car that longer is driveable. But Aunt Edna is getting another engine this spring. And yes, that is Close Encounters of the Third Kind playing on 8 track.

Many of us fondly remember climbing into a huge Country Squire, LTD, or spacious midsize Thunderbird for the family road trip. These 2.5 ton battle wagons didnt fold up like tin foil when hit, like a new Accord or bounce you to death like a new front wheel drive "family sedan". Most are now gone, but not forgotten, we all remember the rumble of their 460 V-8 powerplants that could acually tow a travel trailer.

You know when someone or something of our culture has truly made it when its on South Park or The Simpsons. I found this song by accident on I Tunes. I have never heard of Thom Shepard till now. I recommend his other songs, they are really well done. He also wrote Riding with Private Malone, that singer David Ball came out with in 2000-2001ish. The second before the last, is when my red '77 CS made its day view late October 2005. You can hardly see it but its back there. It's sad to see great motor cars like these slowly be forgotten. It's got a nice 1:10,5 compression, straight timing, a DUI ignition, ported heads, holley 4160 750cfm with vac sec and a comp cams xe256h camshaft. Tranny and rear axle have stock gears, so rear axle is 1:2,73. Btw I'm driving on LPG so performance I a tad less compared to petrol. Enjoy!
