El Dorado (-enɛldɵˈreɪdoʊpronEldorado.wav ) is a city situated along the Walnut River in the central part of Butler County, located in south-central Kansas, in the Central United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 13,021. It is the county seat and most populous city of Butler County. El Dorado is included in the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area.

This is video I took on the Kansas Turnpike (Interstate 35) near El Dorado, KS on the evening of May 12, 2010. Straight line winds/downburst toppled high tension power lines across the interstate. The semi in the video hit the wires at highway speeds, and was spun around. It took out the guard rail next to the overpass, then the trailer smashed into the pillar on the overpass of KS-254 in El Dorado. The turnpike was closed in both directions for approximately 4 hours because of this crash. There was also a Tornado Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Wichita which included the El Dorado area. Police asked people in their cars to take shelter in ditches, however, the rotation and storm stayed to the north of where we were stopped.
