Of the emerging democracies in central and eastern Europe, the Czech Republic has one of the most developed industrialized economies. It is one of the most stable and prosperous of the post-Communist states of Central and Eastern Europe. GDP per capita at purchasing power parity was $26,800 in 2008, which is 82% of the EU average.

The principal industries are heavy and general machine-building, iron and steel production, metalworking, chemical production, electronics, transportation equipment, textiles, glass, brewing, china, ceramics, and pharmaceuticals. Its main agricultural products are sugarbeets (now largely destroyed by EU quota policies), fodder roots, potatoes, wheat, and hops.

The Stench of Truth 228 Call or write your legislators to ask that they allow the provisions of the Patriot Act which are due to expire at the end of this year, do so. Pakistani "terrorism" is cause for alarm, ushering in more direct US involvement. Afghan "strategy" is just more war. Economic "recovery" can't last as gold and the markets both go up, one has to give, I think it will be the markets. The EU, is now a new behemoth like the former USSR, no dissent. Disappointed by Ireland, but we still have the Czechs!
