The Morgan Library & Museum held a special screening of Gahan Wilson: Born Dead, Still Weird, a documentary, directed by Steven-Charles Jaffe, about the life and work of the New Yorker cartoonist of the gleefully macabre bent. (The screening was presented in conjunction with the museum's exhibition On The Money: Cartoons for The New Yorker). Wilson illustrated this short animated adaptation (also directed by Jaffe) of It Was a Dark and Silly Night, a story by Neil Gaiman, the author of (among many, many other works) Coraline, a movie which was celebrated by David Denby. TheNew Yorker is a weekly magazine with a signature mix of reporting on national and international politics and culture, humor and cartoons, fiction and poetry, and reviews and criticism of books, movies, theatre, classical and popular music, television, art, and fashion. newyorker.com

I really did sneak off and take a nap after successfully rendering the video. And although it didn't take away the excruciating pain from my left foot, it did sort of... turn me into a mellow mush of "I don't even care my foot is wonky, I'm making spaghetti for dinner and loving it." For a full description of this Gene Wolfe celebration, see: www.shunn.net On March 17, 2012, Gene Wolfe was honored with the first Fuller Award from the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame, recognizing Chicago authors who have made outstanding lifetime contributions to literature. The award ceremony and banquet took place at the Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills, a veritable museum of mechanical marvels, none so marvelous as the Eden Palais Carousel, originally built in 1890 and the most complete example of a European salon carousel in existence. After the banquet was complete, attendees were invited to ride the carousel. Watch closely and you'll spot, whirling with delight, writers, editors, artists and celebrities including Neil Gaiman, Peter Sagal, Jill Thompson, Michael Swanwick, David G. Hartwell, Patrick O'Leary, and Gene Wolfe himself.
