County Galway ( ) is one of the twenty-six counties of the Republic of Ireland, and also one of the thirty-two counties of Ireland, located in the province of Connacht. It was named after the city of Galway ( ). There are several strongly Irish-speaking areas (gaeltachts) in the west of the county. The population of the county at the April 2006 census was 159,052 (Figure does not include that of Galway City as it is a separate administrative unit).
