Coryell County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. In 2000, its population was 74,978. The county seat is Gatesville. Coryell County forms part of the Killeen - Temple - Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is named for James Coryell, a frontiersman, and Texas Ranger who was killed by Native Americans while protecting settlers.
