Chéngdū ( ), formerly transliterated as Chengtu, is the capital of Sichuan province, of Southwest China, maintaining sub-provincial administrative status. Chengdu is also one of the most important economic centres, transportation and communication hubs in Western China. According to the 2007 Public Appraisal for Best Chinese Cities for Investment, Chengdu was chosen as one of the top ten cities to invest in out of a total of 280 urban centers in China.

More than four thousand years ago, the prehistorical Bronze Age culture of Jīnshā ( ) established itself in this region. The fertile Chengdu Plain, on which Chengdu is located, is also known as " " (Tiānfǔzhi Guó), which literally means "the country of heaven", or more often seen translated as "the Land of Abundance". It was recently named China's 4th-most livable city by China Daily.

Several Panda cubs at play on their playground equipment @ Wolong Reserve near Chengdu, China. This clip only shows a very small part of the Wolong Reserve breeding complex, and the cubs have plenty of space to roam and lots of trees to climb. Plus, this footage was shot just after the snows had melted and it had been raining, hence the muddy & dank look of the place, so don't go posting comments that the places look really crappy and the pandas are being treated badly, because you don't know how detailed the whole breeding complex is in total, unless you have been there. If you are interested in visiting the Panda's at Wolong Reserve, then check out this link : www.chinagiantpanda.com

Live Video... A 7.9 magnitude Earthquake hit western China,Chengdu Wenchuan and state media says more than 80000 people have been killed, while some 47000 are trapped in a collapsed schools. (May 12, 2008) national mourning for the dead that now stands officially at 80500. The fresh tremor, which measured 5.7 in magnitude, brought down a large number of houses, damaged 377 km of roads and six bridges, rescue authorities said late on Sunday. In the provincial capital, Chengdu, some 200 km south of the epicentre, thousands fled swaying buildings, Xinhua said. More than six days after the main quake of 7.9 magnitude rattled Sichuan province, authorities are worried by the aftershocks and the build up of water in blocked rivers and have tried to stop people from entering the affected area. China says it expects the final death toll to exceed 50000. About 4.8 million people have lost their homes. Three days of national mourning were declared from Monday, with flags flying at half mast, public entertainment suspended and a three-minute silence observed to mark exactly one week since the quake, the government website www.gov.cn said State television said the Olympic torch relay through China would also be suspended for three days. The clip says it all...a once in a lifetime experience at Wolong Reserve near Chengdu, China. Before anyone accuses me of mis-treatment or cruelty to the pandas, I can tell you the Wolong Reserve near Chengdu in Sichuan China closely monitors exposure by the pandas to humans and only allows the pandas to be handled infrequently and only to small groups. Furthermore, the centre is under funded by the Chinese Govt. hence they rely heavily on Western tourist dollars to assist in running this remote Panda breeding centre. The money spent by Western tourists to get close to the pandas is essential in keeping this centre running and flourishing.....if you want to visit the Pandas at Wolong Reserve, then check out this link for more info : www.chinagiantpanda.com
