The Blackburn Buccaneer was a British low level strike aircraft serving with the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force. Designed and initially produced by Blackburn Aircraft it was later known as the Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer when Blackburn became a part of the Hawker Siddeley group. The first Buccaneer model, the S.1, was powered by a pair of de Havilland Gyron Junior turbojets producing 7100 pounds of thrust. [2] This mark was somewhat underpowered, and as a consequence could not take off fully laden with both fuel and armament. A temporary solution to this problem was the "buddy" system; aircraft took off with a full load of weaponry and minimal fuel and would sortie with a Supermarine Scimitar that would deliver the full load of fuel by aerial refuelling. This was not an ideal solution however, as the loss of an engine during take-off could have been catastrophic, and the Gyron Junior gave a poor range due to high fuel consumption. The long term solution was the S.2, fitted with the Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan, providing 40% more thrust with a greatly reduced fuel consumption. The engine nacelles had to be enlarged to accommodate the Spey, and the wing required minor aerodynamic modifications as a result. The S.2 Buccaneer had completely replaced the S.1 by November 1966. With the introduction of the Martel air-to-surface missile, some Mark 2 aircraft were converted to carry it, and became S.2D. The remaining aircraft became S.2C. Sixteen aircraft were built (and fifteen ...

www.shuttleworth.org Robert Blackburn was born on the 26th March 1885 and became one of Britain's first aircraft designers and builders. His first aeroplane to fly did so at Filey in 1910 and he then produced several designs over the next two years. The basic 1912 machine was called the Mercury or the Type D monoplane. It was quite an advanced design for the time with all surfaces fully covered and an engine cowling around the top part of the engine. Although the design looks modern it still retains wing warping as the method of lateral control. The Collection's Blackburn monoplane was the seventh Mercury monoplane built. It was built in October 1912 to the order of Cyril Foggin, who learnt to fly at the Blackburn School at Hendon. It first flew in December 1912 in the hands of Harold Blackburn and was demonstrated by the company during the first part of 1913. Cyril Foggin first flew his new aeroplane on March 24 1913, but the aircraft was still used as a demonstration model by Blackburn. The aircraft was also used by Harold Blackburn to fly copies of the Yorkshire Post newspaper from Leeds to York between July 23-25 1913. The Blackburn Monoplane was then modified to have rounded wing tips and was fitted with a new design of undercarriage. It was then acquired by Montague Francis Glew, but he crashed the Blackburn at Wittering, Lincolnshire in 1914. The outbreak of the First World War led to the Blackburn being abandoned and forgotten. It was discovered in 1937 by Richard ...

www.mosthauntednites.co.uk This is just a short video inside the Blackburn Beverley aircraft at Fort Paull in which I set up a night vision camera along with a laser grid (all the little dots of light) and left it running. You can hear me calling out and taking a couple of photos before I leave the aircraft to join the rest of our crew and guests in the vaults, after I leave in the upper left of the picture you see an orb enter then exit to the left and a second or so after you see an insect fly from left to right. The good thing about this video is both an orb and an insect are captured so a clear difference can be seen between the two.See our website for more information or contact "Spooky Steve" via 07932 065304 or email him at steve@mosthauntednites.co.uk MHN would like to thank the guests in this video for allowing us to film their experience to share with YouTube viewers and viewers of the MHN website. The Blackburn B2 was developed as a trainer from that company's bluebird IV light aircraft. A conventional fin and rudder replaced the earlier machine's rudder only and the fuselage was aluminium clad and made incredibly strong to withstand the hard knocks of instructional flying. A unique feature of the B2 compared to other trainers of the time is the side-by-side seating arrangement of pilot and instructor that allowed better communication than the traditional tandem cockpits. G-AEBJ is owned by BAE Systems and is the last airworthy B2, although the remains of G-ACBH are also in existence. It came to the Shuttleworth Collection in March 2008 to join the Avro Nineteen and DH60 Moth as part of BAE Systems Heritage Flight.
