first of all I give full respect to the cultures of the Middle east (and the rest of the world for that matter...). It would be silly to not give credit to the people of....say China and Japan.....India and Babylon....ect...etc...All of these were fantastic cultures! However....It is a common mistake to think that the peoples of Europe werent able to create civilization until....a much later date....and then of course "only through middle eastern help" were they able to advance.... The is totally incorrect, The fact is sir that: The Most ancient.....and Most advanced people known to science.....Were the Cro-Magnons of pre-Iceage Europe! The prehistoric Basques are one of the oldest cultures on the planet....dated to an unthinkable....~40000 BC!!!! The Basques of Western Europe still speak one of the worlds oldest languages...a language that predates Indo-European by ~30000 years.... The technology of the ancient Basques was so advanced......so long ago.....that science refused to believe it....until repeated examples and evidence forced them to ! Science now knows that TENS of THOUSANDS of years before any other known people of the world even started to add and subtract....The ancient Basques had developed STONE Calculators and Bone Lunar Calculators... Furthermore....Science now also knows that long before the Iceage ended......and long before any other know people had even created a Canoe....or a raft.....The Ancient Basques had created ocean going ships.....and settled ...

I came over these nice people when I was walking down the street in my hometown Tbilisi (Georgia) with my friends. They are our brothers from Basque Country (Euskal Herria) We played on their national instrument and had great fun. Unfortunately they were leaving our country in several hours, but we all hope we will meet each other someday. I've asked them to leave their flag, the flag that's been hanging on their instrument, showing the text: "EUSKAL PRESO ETA IHESLARIAK ETXERA!" in remembrance to me :)

Entry from: San Sebastián - Donostia, Spain Entry Title: "Basque Country" Entry: "We hired a tour guide, Itzaso, for the day, recommended in Rick Steves. She drove us to several fishing villages and beach resorts in the Basque Countryside, and taught us a lot about Basque history. They have their own language, Euskara, which uses different lots of Z's and X's in their words, and are trying to maintain their culture. You will notice the names on some of the buildings in the Euskara language. The Basque people are famous for their sailing, fishing and iron ore. The Pinta was manned by all Basque people including the captain. When Magellan died while sailing around the world, the crew member who finished the journey was also a Basque. The Basque people are also famous for Pinxtos, or tapas type little dishes. We made them our dinner on two nights in San Sebastion. Much seafood of course, including anchovies, shrimp, calamari, cod, as well as some fois gras from France, and many different mushrooms. The idea is to have a few at each bar and kind of cruise town, eating pinxtos and drinking wine or the local beer, which is also quite good. The bars are very busy and you have to be a little assertive in order to place your orders. Several of the items are just placed on top of the bar and you help yourself ...
