Backcountry.com is an online retailer that specializes in high-end outdoor recreation gear for skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, trekking, trail running, snowshoeing, and cycling. With the conviction that the customer must dictate what a company should sell, John Bresee and Jim Holland founded Backcountry.com in 1996 with a total investment of $2,000 and never had to raise another penny.
The New York Times, stated in an article "Surviving an Avalanche," that Backcountry.com is a Utah-based purveyor of outdoor products.
Outside Magazine named Backcountry.com and its ODAT sites, SteepandCheap.com, Tramdock.com, WhiskeyMilitia.com, Bonktown.com in its "Best of Web" Issue - February 2009.
