When it comes to technology, 'look and feel' matters - advanced functionality is worthless if too complex to master; sleek design is pointless if it isn't also enjoyable to use. As our devices get more complex, the way we use them needs to become more intuitive. In this session we will hear from those at the forefront of ushering in the next generation of technologies which promise to transform the way we interact with the world. Entrepreneur James Caan has been awarded an honorary degree by Leeds Met as part of our Summer Graduation celebrations. James - who said he had "tear in his eye" as he accepted his award - is currently the CEO of private equity firm Hamilton Bradshaw and is best known for his panel role in BBC2's Dragon's Den, of which series seven is now being televised. He received his honorary doctorate in Business Administration from the University's Innovation North Faculty. James Caan founded the executive headhunting firm Alexander Mann Group in 1985 and has gone on to achieve widespread recognition through awards which include BT Enterprise of the Year 2001 for outstanding success in business and Pricewaterhouse Cooper's Entrepreneur of the Year 2003. He encouraged the graduands to do well after University, saying "I've been confronted by many challenges, but don't let it stop you - you are hired because of who you are." Before thanking Leeds Met once more, he said: "It's our attitude not our aptitude that determines our altitude."
