Anthony Norman Albanese (born 2 March 1963), Australian politician, and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport. He has been an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives since March 1996, representing the Division of Grayndler, New South Wales also Leader of The House in the Parliament of Australia.

Albanese was born in Sydney, was educated at ((St Mary's Cathedral College)) a independent catholic boys school in Sydney and then at the University of Sydney. He was a bank officer before entering politics. He was research officer to the Minister for Local Government and Administrative Services, Tom Uren, (1985 89), Assistant General Secretary of the New South Wales branch of the Australian Labor Party (1989 95), and senior policy adviser to the Premier of New South Wales, Bob Carr (1995 96).

Following his entry in to parliament in 1996, Albanese was promoted to the Opposition Shadow Ministry in 1998. He was Shadow Minister for Environment and Heritage in 2004 05. In June 2005 he became Shadow Minister for Environment and Heritage, Shadow Minister for Water, and Deputy Manager of Opposition Business in the House. In December 2006 he was appointed Shadow Minister for Water and Infrastructure.

In the 2007 Federal election in which Labor came to power, Albanese was re-elected to the seat of Grayndler with a 3.72% swing toward the Labor Party. As part of the First Rudd Ministry, it was announced that Albanese would become the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government. The new Ministry was sworn in at Government House on 3 December.

In October 2009 the Sydney Morning Herald reported that federal Labor minister and South Sydney Rabbitohs diehard Anthony Albanese torpedoed the initial attempt to appoint the former Liberal Prime Minister John Howard to a senior position in league administration. Albanese admitted he had phoned the NRL chief executive, David Gallop, as well as other league officials to advise them against the idea. He then implored officials at Souths, where he was once a board member, to help stop the suggestion from gaining momentum.

Albanese is from the left Labor faction. He is married to Carmel Tebbutt, former Deputy Premier of New South Wales and the member for the state electoral district of Marrickville, which lies within the borders of Grayndler. They have one son, Nathan.

Julia Gillard delivers a solemn address to the house of reps following news of the NZ earthquake. Wayne Swan & Anthony Albanese display unbelievable insensitivity in their reactions to the PM's words! Even Laura Smythe & Deborah O'Neill apparently found some amusement during Gillard's moving description of parents attempting to cross town -- desperate to get to their kids, and "distressing images on TV screens". Swan and/or Albanese are seen giggling amongst statements of "multiple fatalities", the intensity of the quake, "Christchurch running out of ambulances" etc. They weren't listening or they didn't care! Either way this shows unbelievable contempt for New Zealanders as well as being embarrassing for Australians. Gillard started her talk by describing New Zealanders as "family to Australians" -- Is this how they react to losing family members?

The Maritime Union of Australia National Secretary and President of the International Transport Workers' Federation, Paddy Crumlin, today applauded the release of the Federal Government's discussion paper providing details on national shipping policy reform. At the MUA's Sydney branch conference today, Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese announced a detailed legislation implementation plan which builds on the national shipping policy commitment made during the election campaign. Mr Crumlin said changes to ship licensing and ship registration, combined with taxation measures like a tonnage tax which will replace corporate tax, will increase investment in Australian ships. "We could conceivably see up to 10 new ships moving domestic freight on the Australian coast, and much of our iron ore, coal and agricultural exports carried in Australian registered ships within a short number of years," he said. Mr Crumlin said the union supported the announcement by Minister Albanese that the Government aims to have the legislation finalised by the middle of next year and the reform package in place by mid 2012. "We believe the time frame announced today is achievable given the amount of policy work undertaken since the Parliamentary Inquiry report on shipping was handed down in October 2008, and given the work of the Shipping Policy Advisory Group (SPAG) during 2009," he said. "We also applaud the fact that the Minister has indicated the Navigation Act 1912 ...
