Altoona (formerly known as POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold for ceremonial purposes, for a 60-day period from April-June, 2011) is a city in Blair County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the principal city of the Altoona Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The population was 47,176 at the 2006 census estimate, making it the tenth most populous city in Pennsylvania, after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Erie, Reading, Scranton, Bethlehem, Lancaster and Harrisburg. The Altoona MSA includes all of Blair County and had an estimated population of 125,527 in 2007, according to the U.S. Census. Around 105,000 of which live within a 5 mi (8 km) radius of the Altoona city center, according to U.S. Census zip code population data.

Having grown around the railroad industry, the city is currently working to recover from industrial decline and urban decentralization experienced in recent decades. The city is home to the Altoona Curve baseball team of the Double A Eastern League, which is the Double A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. It also houses the 75+ year-old Altoona Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Teresa Cheung. Prominent landmarks include the Horseshoe Curve, the Railroaders Memorial Museum, the Juniata Shops of the Altoona Works, the Mishler Theatre, the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, and the Jaffa Shrine Center.

Altoona is also the home of the Sheetz headquarters. Sheetz is one of the largest convenience store and gas station chains in the country, with stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. Because of this, approximately 20 Sheetz stores are located in and around Altoona. Sheetz is one of the featured companies in the Morgan Spurlock documentary, Pom Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. To promote itself, as well as the film, the City of Altoona agreed to change its name temporarily to the title of the film and be known as Pom Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, PA for 60 days for a fee of $25,000. The city held a ceremony on April 27 to salute the documentary, followed by a screening.

Altoona is unique in the United States as being the only city that imposes no property tax on buildings, taxing land values only.

After a 4 year absence from Altoona Railfest, Juniata Terminal's beautifully restored Pennsylvania Railroad EMD E8 locomotives have returned to the high iron! As part of Railfest, the Es pulled the "Gateway Tripper", a round trip excursion from Altoona to Pittsburgh and back. This clip features the train arriving and being parked in Penn Station in downtown Pittsburgh. Also included is a NS RoadRailer train, powered by two GE C40-9Ws. Video shot on July 7, 2007.

Pennsylvania Railroads legendary Horseshoe Curve in the peak of the fall season is the central theme of this exciting model railroad layout. Expansive broad sweeping curves help recreate the fond memories of watching heavy rail traffic from a focal point famous with rail-fans from far and wide. Travel beyond the curve, past the town of Altoona, the rail yard, and the industrial areas. Along the route both the 3-rail O gauge and S scale portions of this layout pass over several magnificent bridges and viaducts while skirting the cliffs and mountain ranges of Appalachia. Together with a plethora of super-detail structures and numerous vignettes, this model railroad display is both a visual treat and an operational delight for the would-be railroad tycoon. Dimensions: 15 ft x 45ft combination Around-the-wall / Island Configuration. See more at www.smarttinc.com

***Watch in High Quality for Best Results*** (Part Six) June 26, 27, and 28 was Railfest weekend in Altoona, Pennsylvania. This video is of two great train layouts. One of the layouts was on the third floor of the Railroaders Memorial Museum, and the other was about halfway between the Railroaders Museum, and the Horseshoe Curve. The layout on the third floor of the Railroaders Museum was a modular layout. Some of the features on that it included, the Horseshoe Curve, the Gallitzin Tunnels, the Portage Tunnel, and a small train yard. It was a very cool layout. The other layout was at the Altoona Association of Model Railroaders and Museum. The layout is made up of both HO and O gauge. The outside is O, and the inside is HO, with an HO village and town. The building is small, but the club used every inch they could use to build the beautiful layout. Me and Matt (CSX2788) took the shuttle bus that the Railroaders Museum provided for the weekend, which ran from the Railroaders Museum, to the Altoona Association of Model Railroaders and Museum, and then to the Horseshoe Curve where it then ran back to the Railroaders Museum from there. Anyways, I stepped outside of the train club to talk a picture of the sign, and to see if our bus was here, when I heard a train blowing its horn for the near-by "Brick Yard" crossing. Matt (CSX2788) was standing next to me and we both knew it sounded like the E8's coming back to downtown Altoona with the 12:20 excursion train. So thinking we ...
