3D Realms (legal name Apogee Software, Ltd.) is a current video game publisher and former video game developer based in Garland, Texas, United States, established in 1987. It is best known for popularizing the shareware distribution model and as the creator of franchises on the PC such as Duke Nukem, and also the publisher of other franchises such as Commander Keen and Wolfenstein 3D.

While the company is known as "3D Realms", the legal name of the company is Apogee Software, Ltd. The name "3D Realms" was initially created as a branding label in July 1994 for use by Apogee which would be dedicated to just 3D games (as Apogee was then known for several styles of games). However, shortly after this, 3D games started to dominate the industry, and Apogee decided to direct its focus on this style of game; as such, "Apogee" was abandoned as a trade name in late 1996. In July 2008, however, it announced that the brand Apogee Software would be revived with new games, but licensed to an external company, Apogee Software, LLC.

But they're coming back now with a new title set in the modern day. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Follow Machinima on Twitter! Shadow Warrior was a first-person shooter developed by 3D Realms in 1997. In this game you're playing Lo Wang, a master ninja assassin. There were three expansion packs in development, but they have been dropped because of disappointing sales compared to Duke Nukem 3D. The unreleased "Wanton Destruction" expansion pack has been published for free in 2005. Watch my channel for more about DOSBox!

Here is a Duke Nukem Forever gameplayvideo. This video was uploaded by zchri9. (On this channel, it was uploaded by 555atlas.) e Nukem Forever is a first-person shooter video game that was in development since 1997 by the software developer 3D Realms. It was intended as a sequel to the 1996 game Duke Nukem 3D, as part of the long-running Duke Nukem video game series, and it was to be directed by George Broussard, one of the creators of the original Duke Nukem game. While the game was intended to be groundbreaking, it became infamous for its severely protracted development schedule. The game has been the subject of much speculation, and has frequently been referred to as vaporware. Development on DNF was first publicly announced in April 1997, and promotional information for the game was released in one form or another in each of 1997, 1998, 2001, 2007, and 2008. After repeatedly announcing and deferring release dates for the game, 3D Realms announced publicly in 2001 that DNF would be released simply "when it's done". Although Take-Two Interactive still owns the publishing rights to the game, they do not have an agreement with 3D Realms to provide funding for the game's continued development, and its future remains unclear. In the same month, Take-Two Interactive filed a lawsuit against 3D Realms over their failure to finish development of the game. Please SUBSCRIBE! When its done! (c) by Bryan Brewer

Terminal Velocity was an arcade flight simulator game developed by Terminal Reality and published by 3D Realms in 1995. It was noticeable for its all-digital soundtracks, great frame rates, external environments, and ability to fly through tunnels and into underground caverns. Terminal Reality also developed Fury³, which was quite similar to Terminal Velocity, but ran natively on Microsoft Windows 95 and was published by Microsoft in the same year. In this video, you can see the PC MS-DOS shareware version of Terminal Velocity. Watch my channel for more about DOSBox!

Classic Game Room reviews DUKE NUKEM 3D for Sega Saturn. The hilarious, iconic first person shooter from 3D realms originally released in 1996 found its way onto the Sega Saturn shortly thereafter. Sluggish gameplay with lag and delay basically ruins what is otherwise an awesome first person shooter. While Duke Nukem 3D is playable on the Sega Saturn and a truly awesome videogame, there are better versions of Duke Nukem 3D out there (PC and Xbox 360). This CGR review of Duke Nukem 3D has gameplay from Duke Nukem 3D showing game play on Sega Saturn.
