The 2010 Wimbledon Championships took place on the outdoor grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. The tournament ran from Monday 21 June until Sunday 4 July 2010. It was the 124th staging of the Wimbledon Championships, and the third Grand Slam tennis event of 2010. Queen Elizabeth II attended on Thursday 24 June 2010, for the first time in more than 30 years. Roger Federer was the defending men's champion and first seed, but he was defeated in the quarter-finals by Tomáš Berdych. Berdych also defeated third seed Novak Djoković in the semi-finals, but was defeated in straight sets by Rafael Nadal in the final. Nadal won his second Wimbledon title, having previously won the 2008 title. Serena Williams successfully defended the women's crown, defeating Vera Zvonareva in the final to win her fourth Wimbledon title. |
