The 1997 NFL season was the 78th regular season of the National Football League. The Oilers relocated from Houston, Texas to Nashville, Tennessee. The newly-renamed 'Tennessee Oilers' played their home games during this season at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee while a new stadium in Nashville began construction.

This was the last season to date that TNT Broadcast NFL games, as well as the last for NBC until 2006. When the TV contracts were renewed near the end of the season, CBS took over the American Football Conference package and ESPN won the right to televise all of the Sunday night games.

Due to Game 7 of the 1997 World Series, the Chicago Bears - Miami Dolphins game at Pro Player Stadium was moved back one day to Monday, October 27.

The Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Buccaneers both changed their uniforms, and the new uniforms for both teams were introduced during this season.

The season ended with Super Bowl XXXII when the Denver Broncos defeated the Green Bay Packers.

This is Randy Edelman's composed theme used by NBC for its AFC package in their final 3 years of broadcast. Its one of my favorite themes of any sport. I threw in the first team pairings of every year of the Enberg Years.... I must acknowledge, the music was composed by Randy Edelman, and the clip and images are copyrights of their respective owners.

The 1997 Cincinnati Bengals season was the team's 30th season as a professional team, and also their 28th season in the NFL. As the season began, there were high hopes for the Bengals, who had finished 1996 strong, rallying under new coach Bruce Coslet to win 7 of 9 games, and finish the year at 8-8. The Bengals were led by wide reciever Carl Pickens, who looked to build on his 100-1000 season the year before, and the strong armed quarterback Jeff Blake. The season would also mark the return of Bengals legendary quarterback Boomer Esiason after a four season hiatus in New York and Arizona. Esiason had been talked into returning to play one more year of football with the team he made a name for himself with.
