The 1980 World Series matched the Philadelphia Phillies against the Kansas City Royals, with the Phillies winning in six games to capture the first of two World Series titles in franchise history to date. It is remembered for Game 6, which ended with Tug McGraw striking out Willie Wilson at 11:29 p.m. Wilson set a World Series record by striking out twelve times (after getting 230 hits in the regular season) in the six-game set. The Phillies became the last of the original AL and NL franchises to win a World Series title.

The Kansas City Royals became the second expansion team, and the first American League expansion team, to appear in the World Series. The AL would have to wait until 1985 before one of their expansion teams-the Royals themselves-would win a World Series.

This was the first World Series played entirely on artificial turf. It was also the first World Series since 1920, and the last to date, to feature two franchises that had never previously won a championship.

We took a trip to the infamous Frankford and Cottman in Mayfair, Northeast Philadelphia after the Phillies' first World Series victory since 1980. Never in our young lives have we witnessed such a joyous celebration in this city.

Tug McGraw threw the last pitch in the 1980 World Series to strike out Willie Wilson! In this video Tug has loads of fun describing to MAB Paint sales managers what was going through his mind when he threw the last pitch. Baseball season is around the corner! You can help the Tug McGraw Foundation fight brain cancer at www.Tug McGraw.org. Videotaped at Veteran's Stadium, June 18, 1991.

Short & VERY rare clips of Tiff Needell racing for the Ensign Formula 1 team in 1980 at Monaco In his early years, Needell first raced at a driving school at Brands Hatch in 1970. He progressed to Formula Ford, his progress assisted by the use of a Lotus 69 FF he won in an Autosport magazine competition.[1] He later sold his Lotus and used the money to buy and race an Elden Mk10. The remainder of the 1970s saw Needell as a front runner in the British Formula 3 series and then in the Aurora British Formula One championship. In 1979 he was unable to graduate to the F1 World Championship due to the lack of the correct licence, but he was back in 1980, driving two Grand Prix's for team Ensign & qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix at Zolder. However, he had an engine problem and did not finish the race. He subsequently failed to qualify for the Monaco Grand Prix.
